ABOO STUDIO was established in 1988 as a gallery in which to display and sell original jewelry created by contemporary jewelers and metalsmiths. Today Taboo Studio represents some seventy-five artists who are locally, nationally and internationally recognized. Each of the artists is known for his or her distinct style and use of materials. All work is handmade and is one-of-a-kind or of limited production. Collectors frequent Taboo in search of new works by their favorite artists.
he work displayed at Taboo Studio is contemporary art jewelry, flatware and hollowware. The artists represented are Twentieth Century goldsmiths and silversmiths, many of whom have been professionally trained in art schools and university programs. They forge and fabricate works of art which are worn as personal adornment or appreciated as art objects. The work shown at Taboo is most frequently silver or gold, or both and may or may not include the use of precious or semi-precious stones. The artists who show their work at Taboo will also meet with customers and collectors to design commissioned work and special orders upon request.
aboo Studio is open from 11 AM until 6 PM, Tuesday through Friday, Saturday from 10 am to 5 PM. The studio hosts four major exhibitions per year and is available for group receptions, tours and artist presentations upon request.
aboo Studio is located in Mission Hills, an upscale neighborhood just north of downtown San Diego and west of Hillcrest. Originally in the Gas Lamp District in downtown San Diego, they relocated to 1615½ West Lewis Street in 1998.
